sara & ross ~ 4.25.09

Wednesday, April 29th, 2009

This past Saturday was yet another fine day for a wedding here in Northwest Ohio! The weather was not too cold and not too warm for a April spring day [a tad bit breezy, but we will take it] ! With the colors Sara & Ross chose, it almost felt like 4th of July, which is one of my favorite times of the year so it was neat to be a little out of season with those feelings for the 4th. The bridesmaids in red dresses with blue & red flowers ~ such a great combo! It was so clear that Sara & Ross make a terrific couple with huge smiles all day long! Thank you for choosing us to spend the day with you & your families! Enjoy your sneak peek! I hope you both are having a blast in Jamaica!!!

and some details - [love the little Eston's flowers on the cake & Sara's dad's mg getaway car!]

Emily & Dave ~ 4.18.09

Tuesday, April 21st, 2009

What an amazing day Saturday was! I think my mouth was sore a bit on Sunday for all the laughing I did… the bridal party was perfect! Emily looked gorgeous and Dave was so happy to be her husband. I have to warn you there are alot of images here. I simply could not decide. We had a lot of time after the ceremony and everyone was really into being in front of the cameras – and I mean really - even the guys, especially the guys.  To note – the pyramid was their idea, I can’t take full credit. I just held my breath [from laughing of course] enough to hold the camera still for a few shots.   The day was perfect, too. Even hot a bit but so loving it for April -

So enough of the talk, let’s begin with the photos!

The details were all about the green & yellow. Which I loved and made a Saturday in April feel so springy! You cannot go wrong with limes & lemons! Oh and Emily’s purse is actually her mother’s purse she had from her own wedding day 35 years ago - you could not ask for a better little daisy wedding purse than your own mothers!! Love your details Emily!

And a little surprise, kinda…a few more from the reception. I don’t typically post that many from the reception but I couldn’t resist. We had a few large groups of great friends and then some other just funny dance floor shots. :)   And by the way – go ahead and leave me a comment – make my day! [comments rule!!!]

Aimee’s Alexandra… 4 months old

Friday, April 17th, 2009

It was the year 1993 when I met Aimee working at the local Dairy Queen [yummm, you know it!] We became instant friends even though we went to rival high schools. We were together as much as possible all summer long before I left for college at BG, more than 2 hours away.  I received letters and cards each week sometimes more than one – it was the best getting mail from her. This ofcourse was before email and I think just about when the internet was getting on campus so we were stuck with the old fashion way to keep in touch, which is still my perferred way…But sadly our friendship evantually drifted for years [like atleast 12 long years] until this whole thing called Facebook came about. We ended up joining around the same time and I found her right away. I was estactic to find out she married her boyfriend of 16 years and had just had a daughter. Still living over 2 hours away, we finally met and it was awesome. I loved chatting and remembering or trying to remember how things used to be and filling each other in on life currently [I'm not really sure who had more to say!] So all in all, I’m so glad for Facebook and for finding my friend Aimee, our long lost friendship and ofcourse meeting Alex!! Which brings me to the post – ha, I tend to get off track when I think too much. :) I was so happy to have my camera with me for this impromt quick photo session and to be able to capture these moments of her daughter for my friend and her husband. forever.

So meet Alexandra – she was a doll to photograph, super easy and very curious or maybe confused…haha.

Myrtle Beach Restaurant News :

Black River Grill Launches Friday

blogsc9.jpg

By Becky Billingsley

Tuesday, April 14 – Black River Grill in southern Myrtle Beach opens Friday and its proprietor, veteran restaurateur Kurt Klepper, has put much thought into developing a restaurant with regional cuisine and décor. It’s at 1000 S. Commons Drive, in an outparcel by the Surfside Beach-area Lowe’s Home Improvement formerly occupied by Qdoba Mexican Grill.

Key to the décor is the gorgeous black-and-white photography depicting areas around Georgetown and Murrells Inlet shot by Kurt’s sister, Sarah Klepper-Guess. She is a professional photographer from Toledo, Ohio, who flew into the Grand Strand just to shoot the photos for Black River Grill. Please don’t judge Sarah’s work by my pitiful photo-of-her-photo depicted here. It really is worth a trip to the restaurant to see all of her photos lining the walls, and they are available for purchase. You need to visit Black River Grill to properly view the Lowcountry Series by photographer Sarah Klepper-Guess; this image is my pitiful photo-of-a-photo, complete with the reflection of the blue dress I was wearing.

So the local photos, plus the low-key wrought iron black, stainless steel and terra cotta color scheme, set a laid-back tone for a menu that is partly comfortable and reliable, partly Lowcountry standards, and partly exciting regional innovation.

Kurt is not a restaurant newbie. His previous experience in the Grand Strand area includes seven years as a manager at Joe’s Crab Shack, and at Buckhead Colorado Steakhouse by Coastal Grand Mall, which is now a Texas Roadhouse Grill.

But Kurt always wanted to have his own restaurant, and when this location became available it seemed like the right time to make his move. He developed his menu with a mind to giving people what they want and introducing them to local flavors.

Appetizers ($5.95-$11.95) include a Crab Cake made with backfin meat, Oysters Rockefeller and Oysters on the Half Shell (Gulf Coast oysters), Artichoke Dip, Buffalo Shrimp, Blue Crab Dip, Beer-Boiled Shrimp, Crab-Stuffed Jalapenos, Fried Clam Strips, Sesame Seared Tuna and Chicken Tenders. An appetizer I’ve not seen before is Lobster Bites where the tail meat is coated in coconut breading.

Three soups ($4.75-$5.95) are Kickin’ Crab Corn Chowder, Tomato Basil Bisque and She-Crab; and four salads ($2.45-$2.95) span a Dinner Salad and Caesar Salad, and smaller side versions of them. Any salad can be topped with fried, grilled or blackened chicken, steak or shrimp.

That Coconut Lobster comes back as a sandwich (sandwiches range from $6.75-$12.95) and is served with plum sauce. All sandwiches come with fries and a pickle, and other choices include Sashimi-grade Tuna, French Dip, Prime Rib, Grouper, Philly Steak, Black & Blue Burger, Grilled Chicken, Portabello, and the Black River Burger with smoked gouda cheese, sautéed portabellos, onions, peppers and applewood smoked bacon.

Penne pasta can come with Alfredo or marinara sauces and topped with chicken, shrimp or steak; and shrimp ($12.95-$14.95) can be fried, coconut-crusted, grilled, scampi-style or filled with crab stuffing. Shrimp come with wild rice and vegetables, and you can add a side salad for $1.45. You can order Marinated Chicken and Barbecue Chicken, or a plateful of Chicken Tenders. Black River Chicken ($12.95) is a pair of marinated and grilled breasts topped with smoked provolone, sautéed onions, peppers and portabello mushrooms. Another fowl option is Pan-Seared Duck Breast that’s served medium-rare with plum sauce.

Certified Angus Beef Steak choices ($13.95-$20.95) include Ribeye, Flat Iron, Filet and Prime Rib, and come with Loaded Smashed Potato Casserole and vegetables. Some Seafood Entrees ($14.95-$22.95) are Grouper, Sashimi Tuna, Salmon, Crab Cakes and Lobster Tails.

Starting April 17, and then for two or three weeks while the staff becomes familiar with the menu and before the liquor license comes through, Black River Grill will be open only for lunch from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesdays through Sundays. Around the first or second week of May the hours will expand to 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Tuesdays through Sundays. At that time, Kurt says, he will hire more staff.

Black River Grill’s phone number is (843) 750-0296.

I received an email from my brother (and mom + dad) with the above attachment…just wanted to share in the family’s good news!! Those of you who know Kurt should send a message of how cool he is. Those of you who don’t know my brother, you should try his food in South Carolina. :)
